Translating is easy
We have our own translation program that makes it easy to translate Helium Music Manager. Download, install and run the translation manager and get started immediately!
Getting Started
Download the Translation Manager
- Download the Translation Manager by clicking this link
- Install the Translation Manager
- Run the Translation Manager
Creating a new language
- From the main toolbar, click New to create a new language file
- Enter the name of the language you would like to create, and click OK
- The editor will now create the neccesary files and you can start with the translation
Open a existing language project
- To open a existing language project, click the Open button
- Locate the language file (french.prj for example)
- The editor will now create the neccesary files and you can start to work with the translation
Using the Translation Manager
The translation is divided into two separate tasks, form editing and string editing.
- Forms covers all texts that you will see dialogs throughout Helium Music Manager.
- Strings covers texts used in message dialogs, lists and other similiar places.
Translating forms
When translating forms we recommend you to follow this procedure:
- Switch to the Form View by pressing the following toolbar button:
- Select the form that you will translate from the list to the left
- Edit the form's caption and hint (if available), by changing the values in the top of the right pane, just under the heading, "Editing Form: <Form Name>"
- Edit all of the forms controls and attributes in the list to the right.
Each item starts with a read only header, describing the name of the component, and below the header follows all the properties. Each property are shown in two columns, one to the left (read only) describing the property type, caption or hint for example. To the left the actual text are shown. This is the text that you will need to translate. - When all of the properties are translated, click the green-checkmark icon, located on the top-toolbar to mark the form as "translated".
- The background color in the left list, displaying all of the forms, will now change from red (untranslated) to white (translated).
- Repeat the steps above for all forms.
When editing form properties you will always be able to see the native (original) text to the right of the text that you will need to translate within the editor:
Translating Strings
To translate the texts used in messageboxes, lists etc. click the "String View" icon at the top toolbar.
A view similiar to the form will will now be shown.
To the left there is a list containing all of the string categories. Each string category contains one or more strings that needs to be translated.
Translate strings/categories using the following procedure:
- Switch to the String View by pressing the following toolbar button:
- Select the category that you will translate in the list to the left
- Translate each text shown in the Content column in the right pane
- When all strings within a category are translated, click the green checkmark icon, located on the top-toolbar to mark the category as "translated".
- Repeat the steps above for all categories
To the right of the Content column the native text will be shown. It can be good to check the native contents to see how the text should be translated.
Sometimes there are so called multi-line strings available in a string category.
To edit a multi-line string, simply double click the string and an editor will be shown.
This editor support line-breaks, something that the inplace-editor doesn't do.
Tips
- Use the ready/not ready markups. They are really usefull to see what's translated/not translated
- Save your work often
- Do not translate texts like "%s", "%d" etc.
- Fell free to contact us if you need help or have questions.
